BULLDOGS ON THE MOVE AGAIN:Two Former Georgia Stars Re-Enter Transfer Portal, Shocking Fans

Purdue’s future took a significant hit recently as two former Georgia Bulldogs, wide receiver C.J. Smith and cornerback Nyland Green, entered the transfer portal. This news was reported by Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports and Chris Hummer of 247Sports. Both players were part of Georgia’s recruitment in recent years but have decided to explore new opportunities elsewhere.

Nyland Green, a five-star recruit from the 2021 class, spent three seasons at Georgia before transferring to Purdue in 2023. After committing to Purdue on Christmas Day, Green played in seven games for the Boilermakers, registering 13 tackles, two sacks, and a forced fumble. Given his highly rated high school background, he is expected to draw considerable interest from other programs.

C.J. Smith, a four-star recruit from the 2022 class, signed with Georgia and spent two years with the Bulldogs before transferring to Purdue. Smith caught six passes for 69 yards over three games with the Boilermakers, but his time at Georgia saw more usage. With the Bulldogs, Smith recorded six catches for 116 yards and also had a four-yard rush.

The situation leaves some intrigue as both players are now seeking new destinations. It will be interesting to see where Green and Smith end up, particularly if they reunite at the same school. If that happens, there could even be the possibility of former Georgia wide receiver De’Nylon Morrissette joining them, should he also enter the transfer portal.

Georgia, which has been dealing with some depth issues at wide receiver and defensive back, could be keeping an eye on these developments. The Bulldogs will likely be in the market for reinforcements at those positions as the transfer portal continues to shape college football rosters.
