Mark Pope’s Hidden Gem: Kentucky Forward Ready to Break Out in 2025-26

The Kentucky Wildcats are shaping up to be a formidable team for the 2025–26 season, thanks to Coach Mark Pope’s impressive work in both the transfer portal and high school recruiting. He’s also managed to retain some key returners, creating a strong and balanced roster. Among the notable additions is former Alabama forward Mouhamed Dioubate, who is expected to play a significant role in Lexington.

Last season at Alabama, Dioubate posted solid numbers, averaging 7.2 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. Although his minutes were limited to just 16 per contest, he showcased outstanding efficiency, shooting 61.7% from the field and 46.2% from beyond the arc. With increased playing time at Kentucky, those numbers are expected to rise.

Dioubate’s performance in games where he saw more than 20 minutes on the court was especially promising, hinting at his potential for a breakout year. Analysts believe he’s poised for a big season, even though his overall stats from last year might not immediately suggest that level of impact.

At 6’7″ with a long wingspan, Dioubate brings strong rebounding ability, something that could elevate him to a starting role if he can outperform Croatian forward Andrija Jelavic. If he earns consistent minutes, he’s a strong candidate to lead the Wildcats on the boards.

Although Dioubate came off the bench for Alabama, he’s expected to be a central figure in Kentucky’s plans this season. With his skill set and potential, he could play a pivotal role in helping Coach Pope’s squad compete for a championship.
