Travis Perry, the all-time leading scorer in Kentucky high school basketball history, has decided to transfer from the University of Kentucky after just one season. Although he had previously stated his intention to return for his sophomore year, Perry entered the NCAA transfer portal shortly before the deadline, marking a change in plans following the Wildcats’ loss to Tennessee in the Sweet 16.
During his freshman season with Kentucky, Perry played in 31 games and started four of them. He served primarily in a backup role, averaging 2.7 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.6 assists over 9.7 minutes per game. His standout performances came against Alabama, with double-digit scoring in both regular season and tournament matchups.
Perry concluded his storied high school career at Lyon County with 5,481 points, surpassing the previous state record held by “King” Kelly Coleman. Nationally, his point total ranks seventh all-time. He also holds Kentucky state records in 3-pointers, field goals, free throws, and steals, and led Lyon County to a state title in 2024, where he was named MVP.
A highly decorated high school player, Perry earned back-to-back Gatorade Kentucky Player of the Year honors and was named 2024 Mr. Kentucky Basketball. In his senior season, he posted impressive averages of 32.2 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists, and 4.7 steals per game.
Perry committed to Kentucky in November 2023 under then-head coach John Calipari. Despite Calipari’s departure and Mark Pope’s arrival as head coach, Perry chose to remain with the Wildcats, symbolizing continuity between coaching eras.
Now, with his name in the portal, Perry becomes the second Kentucky player to seek a transfer this offseason, joining fellow guard Kerr Kriisa in exploring other opportunities.
